2011-12 curriculum

The Weaver Vol 1 and Interlock for Mylee, thanks to my friend Colleen!

Learning Language Arts through Literature (red book, 2nd grade) for Tyler.  Explode the code 1 and 2 for Trace.

I found the teacher manual and readers at our homeschool group's used book sale!

Also got the teacher manual for the the ETC books from our SH group's sale.

Horizons math.  Level 1 for Trace, 2 for Tyler and 3 for Treyton

Sprouts

I had some time to fill and didn't want to start a new day in our schedule so we made some bean sprouts.  We made hypothesis' (try saying that without sounding ridiculous-s-s-s! is it even a word?) about what will happen to the bean and how long it will take and then drew pictures in our science journals about what we think they will look like.

Spraying water onto his paper towel.

I love how there is a mess surrounding her in every picture of her!

Flashy cards

Tyler really struggles with spelling.  While at the GHEA conference there was a speaker that I posted about earlier, Diane Craft, who talked about jazzing up flash cards and inbedding pictures right into the words for right brained kids.  I have been trying this out with Tyler and he LOVES it.  He especially enjoys using Sharpie markers but I only have black ones, getting more colors for him is on my to-do list.  I randomly asked him days later and he can spell these words that he has struggled with for months right away.  I especially loved his story of "of" (previously spelled 'uv')...The F shot the chicken and his eye popped out to make the O haha!  Such a boy!

She also talks about not using a spelling curriculum.  She recommends using the childs own misspelled words and the list of 1200 most used words.

2 going on 16

I just LOVE this picture of her.  Reading, listening to music, leaning back in her chair AND rolling her eyes at me for taking a picture of her!  They grow up way to fast!

Frogs

My aunt works at a hotel and they were emptying the pool to wash it and refill it.  When it was empty she found some frogs in the bottom in the murky water.  I threw together a quick frog lesson.  The boys made frog information books about what they knew about frogs, what they wanted to know and then my aunt came to pick them up to collect their frog.  Of course they talked her into taking them swimming afterwards at her apartment pool.  While they were swimming the poor frog got left in the sun and died but I guess they didn't realize it because they brought it home still.  I didn't look at it either until the next morning and it was hard as a rock. We dumped him out and tried to finish our booklets.  The last question was "What I learned about frogs was..."  Well, they die if they are left in the sun.

Trace loved his toes, he said they looked like E.T. fingers on his feet haha!

Mylee did some frog homework too, she woke up from her nap a little earlier than expected and had to pick a frog picture off the internet to color.  I wish I never showed her that I can print pictures of anything she wants on a whim.  She has a lot of whims.

Her latest was a girl frog...
I think her frog is poisonous, it is awfully colorful :)
